The Chungar Lead-Zinc Mine is in Pasco, Peru. The site was first discovered in 1924. The Chungar Lead-Zinc Mine is a underground mining operation. Initial production took place in 1950. The ore mined is composed of molybdenite, galena and sphalerite with waste material consisting primarily of pyrrhotite, garnet and calcite.
The flotation plant, at which lead and zinc concentrates are produced, has a capacity of 1,450 tons of ore per day. The lead concentrate is treated at a third party refinery, and the zinc concentrate is treated at our San Luis Potosi refinery.
